Perfect ride for relay team

06 Apr, 2010 01:28 PM
DAYLESFORD'S Murray to Moyne cycle team last week successfully completed their 520km ride between the Murray and Moyne rivers.

Cyclist Winston Silbereisen, on his 18th Murray to Moyne relay, said this year's team had been one of the strongest ever.

The team left Ecchua at 10am on March 27 and arrived at at Hamilton at midnight on Saturday for its compulsory rest stop - an hour earlier than in previous years.

It arrived at Port Fairy at 10.45am the next morning, completing the relay.

"The weather conditions were favourable, with the rain holding off and that probably helped us to improve the time," Mr Silbereisen said.

"Most of us rode at least half the distance.

"We had not one puncture, which is probably a record too."

The 13 riders and support crew members participated in the event to raise money for Daylesford Hospital and hope to buy four new chairs for the hospital's day recovery centre.

The ride between the Murray and Moyne Rivers has raised $150,00 for the hospital in its 17 previous years, helping it to purchase much-needed equipment.

Money raised for this year's event is still being collected and tallied.
