TEENAGER Daniel Nugent used his early golf experience to qualify for the State Championships to be held later this year.
The 13-year-old from Trentham, who has been playing golf since he was five, finished sixth at the Western Zone Golf Championships held in Buninyong earlier this month.
Nugent was satisfied with his qualifying performance, considering he was one of the youngest in his age group.
He competed against about 15 other boys from the Ballarat region.
Nugent said he was looking forward to the State Championships which will be held in Rosanna in October.
"I would like to win something in the State Championships," he said.
"I try and play as well as I can."
Measuring about 153cm in height, Nugent said he would continue training at the Trentham Golf Club in the lead up to the championships.
"We've got a paddock I can also play in," he said.
Nugent said his father introduced him to the sport and he hasn't turned back since.
"I enjoy playing," he said.
"I came close to a hole in one in Woodend. I will try and get it one day."
Nugent said he was a member of the Trentham Golf Club and also played indoor soccer.
"I would like to become a professional golfer when I'm older," he said.
