Newlyn, Blackwood open early accounts in round

NEWLYN, Hepburn and Blackwood recorded wins the second round of Daylesford District Cricket Association.

Newlyn and Blackwood have won both games in 2007/08.

Blackwood's Matthew O'Brien scored 126 not out and picked up 5/22 with the ball in the performance of the round.

Newlyn at home made 7/117 in its allotted overs with M Clohesy hitting 35 and M Rice getting 22.

Colts was served well with the ball by S Thomas 4/36 and T Geddes 3/30.

Colts replied with 9/108. The batsmen to do well were T Geddes 36 and S Schultz 23. S Dwyer 4/36 and M Rice 2/8 shared the wickets for Newlyn.

In a close game, Hepburn got the points against Smeaton. Smeaton was 10/122 at the end of its overs.

S Hutchinson 35 and A Knowles 22 were the better batsmen, while S Winnard 4/24 , W Robinson 3/32 and M Courtot 2/27 shared the wickets.

Hepburn got over the line to be 7/125, getting home by three runs. M Courtot 78 and S Winnard 30 stood out for Hepburn, A Knowles 3/19 was Smeaton's best bowler.

Blackwood had a very comfortable win over Trentham with an outstanding personal performance by Matthew O'Brien.

Blackwood batted first compiling a very good score of 1/203. M O'Brien 126 no and D Morgan 50no got the runs and H Forgo 1/34 was the successful bowler for Trentham. Trentham replied with 6/123 with

G Justice 30 and S Hewitt 26 in the runs with M O'Brien taking 5/22.

Round three is a one-dayer with Colts at home to Trentham, Korweinguboora at home to Hepburn and Blackwood at home to Newlyn. Smeaton has the bye. Korweinguboora had the bye.
