Murray-to-Moyne River riders relay funds to Daylesford Hospital

23 Feb, 2010 11:28 AM
DAYLESFORD resident Winston Silbereisen will participate in his 18th Murray to Moyne cycle relay, when he joins a team of 12 local riders to raise money for Daylesford Hospital next month.

The ride between the Murray and Moyne Rivers has raised $150,00 for the hospital in its 17 consecutive years, helping it to purchase much-needed equipment.

Mr Silbereisen said although the ride was not any easier after 17 years of practice, it was always fun.

"It's a challenge for a start. There's a very strong sense of `team'," he said.

"It's also a sense of achievement to help the hospital."

To add to the challenge, the ride, which begins in Echuca and ends in Port Fairy, is to be completed within 24 hours.

The cyclists, who will alternate relay legs during the 520-kilometre ride on March 27 and 28, are currently in training for the event.

The riders are Jamie Grant, Barry Golding, Alex Ip, Peter Risstrom, Greg Malcher, Dan Richards, Winston Silbereisen, Ron Griep, Shane Morrison, Steve Carey, Rob Aberdein and Russell Fisher.

On the support crew is Ian Fleischer, Ken Matheson, Gilly Gough, John Turnbull, Peter Brereton, Bill Wilson, David Grant, Barry Nicholls, Sally Malcher, Joy Silbereisen and Danny Spooner.

A fundraising raffle for the charity ride will be held in Vincent St, Daylesford, 9am to 12pm during the long weekend on March 6-7. There will also be a trivia auction night, featuring many items donated by local residents and businesses, on Friday, March 19. It will be held at 7.30pm at Daylesford Primary School gym.

Cost is $12 per head, with all proceeds to Daylesford Hospital. Bookings to Lee at Daylesford Hospital on 5348 2371. Anyone who wishes to support the team can contact Greg Malcher on 5348 2536, Peter Risstrom on 0409 483 147 or Winston Silbereisen on 5348 1048.
