HEPBURN and Springbank, two of the top undefeated teams so far in the 2010 CHNL, battled it out in wet and slippery conditions on Saturday.
The Burras were focussed on their game plan after a week of solid training.
Circle defenders - in-goal keeper Ebony Place and goal defence Hannah Cameron-Taylor - were quick off the mark to shut down the Tigers' experienced goalers.
The slippery conditions seemed to prevent both teams from quickly moving the ball down court early in the game. However, Hepburn's speedy mid-court combined well with the return of goal attack Kristina Closhey and adjusted
to the conditions allowing their game to develop.
It was Hepburn's Lauren Place in centre that stood up to the challenge and allowed the Burras to eventually control the ball in attack.
It was the battle between Hepburn's power goal shooter Jane Lienhop and Springbank's best-on-court Marney O'Brien in goal defence that won over the crowd.
O'Brien was relentless in defence however Lienhop managed to run the game out ,shooting at a dominating 83 per cent.
Hepburn ran out winners 33 to 24.
The Burras thoroughly enjoyed their first victory over the tigers in 10 years.ql
Reserves
HEPBURN'S reserves, currently sitting on top of the ladder, were well prepared for their clash with last year's finalists.
The reserves teak was lead by captain Janee Brown at centre.
Calm and direct with her attacking, Brown quickly dominated the ball in the mid court and directly assisted her team to a four goal lead at the first break.
Kristi Pedretti in goal keeper was up against a very experience goal shooter for Springbank.
Pedretti allowed her opponent to leave the circle then hunt down the ball time and time again.
The turnovers were quickly passed onto Caitlan Ryan, one of the Burras best on court, in wing defence.
The work-rate of goalers Tania Grant and Mel Penny increased as the pressure was applied.
Relentless drives and opportunities by their attackers overwhelmed the experienced Tigers and the Burras comfortably ran out winners 40 to 27.ql
C-grade
HEPBURN'S C grade also continued its successful run.
Under-17s Ange Giacometti and Ellie Thornycroft have stepped into seniors netball well.
Combining in goals with Lisa Ellerton, the Burras quickly over ran their opponents.
Hepburn's best-on-court Maddy Nolan, in-goal defence, overwhelmed her goal attacks in every quarter.
Another strong week for Tashara Nevill in wing defence and Alyson Marriot in goal keeper showed the strength of the Burra's defence.
Cam and Emma in the mid court controlled the ball down court to Ange, who managed to shoot 82 per cent of Hepburn's 34 to 16 win.
