SPORTING enthusiasts in the Hepburn Shire missed out on playing their sport at the weekend due to heavy rain.
But the rain came as a relief to clubs, providing a good soaking for sporting grounds, lawns and courts.
Daylesford lawn bowls, Daylesford and Mt Prospect tennis associations and the Daylesford and District Cricket Association cancelled all sporting competitions.
Terry Noonan from the Daylesford and District Cricket Association said only one game was held on Saturday.
"Korweinguboora and Hepburn played half a day," he said.
Hepburn made 6/90 with Luke Adams 40 not out and Mick Courtot taking 2/26.
Games between Trentham and Blackwood and Smeaton and Newlyn were washed out.
Mr Noonan said the rain provided much relief to the dry grounds.
Winston Silbereisen from the Daylesford Lawn Tennis Association said junior and senior matches were cancelled.
He said he visited the courts on Monday and was pleased with the way the courts looked after the rain.
"It's freshened the place up terrifically," he said.
"Our water system doesn't get to every corner."
Mr Silbereisen said the association sunk a bore in 1981 when there was a drought.
"Otherwise we would not be here," he said.
The weekend's tournaments at the Daylesford Bowling Club was also washed out.
The club will host an Australia Day Men's Tournament this Friday.
The Daylesford and District Cricket Association draw for this Saturday is: Korweinguboora vs Hepburn, Trentham v Blackwood, and Smeaton v Newlyn. Colts have the bye.
Tennis and bowls will continue the season.
