Daylesford Saints dominates entire game

01 Jun, 2010 12:11 PM
THE Daylesford Saints defeated Maryborough 9-1 on Sunday as a "hurricane" ripped through the potato plains at Dean.

The win was a glorious one, with the Saints dominating the game from start to finish and learning some valuable lessons about patience and practice.

The win was one of the windiest in the club's history, and it was a rare sight to miss 100 chances going begging in the breeze.

The Saints were missing Matt Sutton through injury and Dylan Nulty and Paul Freeman.

Those who did play did so with determination but with much running and missing golden goal scoring opportunities.

The Saints got off to a great first half, with fluent passing and clear domination early on.

They scored through Zoran Killbilloski, who stunned the surging crowd with a 25-metre missile into the top corner.

The defence was also functioning well with newcomer Dwight Bear, the ever-reliable Dragi Koleski and Steve Jenner playing well.

The Saints had their work cut out for them, with every player digging deep to create some chances for Jack Nulty and Sam Berrins.

Nulty and Berrins both scored a few goals eventually, after tripping over each other's egos and feet.

Brett Fern and Toneka Costa had great first halves and dominated where others failed to impress. Half-time score: 6-0.

Maryborough started the second half with some better soccer and scored a goal, although Wayne Devlin in goals did his best to save the day.

Wayne played well in goals all day, filling in for the special keeper Nick Jansen.

The Saints appeared to be tiring. Chance after chance went begging until Nulty and Berrins had a few more shots resulting in a goal or two.

Toneka Costa was playing the weaving badger in midfield to perfection.

Eventually it was Dwight Beare who beat the offside trap and rammed home a corker from 20 yards.

Next week the team takes on fifth-placed Ballarat White, a much harder opponent.

Score: 9-1 to Daylesford. Best: Zoran Killbilloski, Dragi Koleski and Brett Fern.
