Cougars under-15s affirm its authority

16 Jun, 2010 05:00 AM
THE Creswick Cougars under-15s showed again why it is a finals contender with a hard fought and well earned draw on Sunday against top-four side Forest Rangers.

Missing four players from the side, the rest of the team more than picked up the slack and made a great start controlling possession all over the field.

With strong defence led by Jake Laidlaw, Forest Rangers rarely got the ball into the 18 yard box and goalkeeper Sam Laidlaw only touched the ball twice for the half.

The pressure placed on the opposition finally led to a goal 20 minutes in, scored by forward Chris Milroy.

The pressure continued and Creswick had more chances. The best of which was a determined run by Brendan Pym but unfortunately the ball went wide of the post. At the break Creswick was up 1-0.

The second half started a little slow for the Wicks as Forest gained some confidence and momentum.

Strong defending from Creswick's players held Forest at bay.

A fantastic save from Sam Laidlaw, pushing the ball wide of the post while running back with the flight of the ball and diving to his left, brought massive cheers from the crowd.

Midway through the half Forest won a corner and as the ball swung across goal a flurry of feet and heads saw the ball find the back of Creswick's net.

Score: Creswick 1, Forest Rangers 1.

Creswick goal: C. Milroy. Best: J. Jardine, Z. Hawkins, S. Griffin, P. Griffin.
