IT HAS been described as one of the best games of country football witnessed for the season.
A large crowd gathered at Bungaree to watch Daylesford overcome Hepburn by six points at the weekend.
The win means Daylesford will move into the Central Highlands Football League grand final against Waubra being played at Ballarat's AUSTAR Arena this Saturday.
Daylesford was clear favourite heading into the match but a determined Hepburn refused to capitulate and, at the 10-minute mark of the final quarter, led by three goals.
Hepburn coach Shane Robertson said he told his players to believe in themselves heading into the match.
But, Daylesford's talent and experience all over the ground proved too strong for his younger side.
"They have got strengths across all lines. There probably isn't a weak link throughout their side, whereas our blokes are still young and raw and a lot of them haven't played under finals pressure football," Robertson said.
"My address at three-quarter time was to not let themselves down. They had worked hard for all three quarters and Daylesford over-ran us easily. To get three goals in front was certainly a magnificent effort...it was just
unfortunate."
Daylesford Football Club coach Phil Davis said he was glad the team had shown resolve to win the game in the last quarter.
"Good on-field leadership was a factor," Davis said. "Those guys certainly stood up at the 10 to 15 minute mark of the last quarter. The scores were pretty close but we were still in an Indian arm wrestle and I told them to play
good tight footy and it would loosen up.
"I told them not to drop their heads, to keep going and they just kept at it. There was probably 10 or 12 scoring shots in the last quarter."
