Blackwood solid before rain delay

23 Jan, 2008 10:08 AM
COMPETITION leader Blackwood has made a solid start to its rain-effected match in Daylesford and District Cricket Association.

Blackwood is 3-115 after winning the toss and batting against Hepburn on Saturday.

Only 26 overs were bowled before rain forced players from the field.

Dan Morgan, 68 not out, and Brett Sullivan, 30 not out, will push Blackwood's total beyond 200 when the match continues next week.

Bowler Sam Winnard has 2-43 for Hepburn.

Newlyn failed to lodge scores in its match against Smeaton. Trentham also failed to enter results in its game against Korweinguboora.

Daylesford Juniors chased Campbells Creek's score of 126 at the weekend.

The successful bowlers were Aidan Mill 3-19, Sebastian Walsh 2-14, Liam O'Halloran 2-27 and Matt Bolton 1-16.

There were two run outs.

Daylesford batted well, but they needed to with three players missing.

Only a nerve-racking last wicket partnership of 60 runs helped Daylesford home.

Max Risstrom 46 not out, Matt Bolton, 21, and Alexander 19 were the better batsmen.

The boys have a two-week bye next round.

STEVEN Oliver smashed seven sixes to lead Muckleford Wanderers to victory in a Cricket Willow's Super 8s competition semi-final.

The Wanderers, batting second, beat Castlemaine easily thanks to Oliver's 59 not out.

Earlier Castlemaine managed 93 from its eight overs. Jim Allan topscored with 48.

Nick and Steven Oliver were the best bowlers for Muckleford.

The Wanderers will take on Barkers Creek in the final tonight at 6pm.
