Saints' loss comes in dying minutes

DAYLESFORD Hepburn United lost a crucial Ballarat Soccer Association match on Sunday.

The Daylesford Saints played Forest Rangers on Sunday at Learmonth in a battle for second place on the league

ladder.

The Saints dominated parts of the match but were unable to hold on to their 2-1 lead for the last 10 minutes.

The game started in a fiery fashion, with both teams playing hard soccer and placing pressure on keepers at both

end.

Forest Rangers opened the scoring with a well-worked goal down the wing that left Daylesford flat footed and

exposed to an easy tap-in at the back post.

This seemed to fire up the Saints, who responded with some great work from Dave Ramage, Daniel Trotter and

Ivan Carter in the midfield.

Dwight Beare was solid in defence and Nick Jensen the saviour on many occasions. The Saints' equaliser came

from a piece of individual brilliance from Dave Ramage, who won the ball from the Forest Rangers and then fended

off two defenders to smash the ball home from 18 yards.

The score was tied at 1-1 at half-time.

The Saints promised to deliver a goal in the first 20 minutes to seal the game and did so through the brilliance

of Steven Jenner. Jenner blasted an ambitious shot from 40m that glided with finesse of an eagle over the Forest

Keeper to perfection.

The Saints had 15 minutes remaining but went into defensive mode too soon.

Within minutes, Forest Rangers scored from 30m to level the scores.

Dylan Nulty and Tobias Schmidt came close at the other end, and should have put the Saints into an unassailable

lead.

However, the unthinkable happened and Forest Rangers scored the winning goal in the final two minutes.

Score: Forest Rangers defeated Daylesford 3-2.

Goals: Dave Ramage, Steven Jenner.

Best: Nick Jansen, Daniel Trotter, Steven Jenner, Costa Teneka, Dave Ramage.
