`Impressive' play but Daylesford Saints settle for a draw

30 Jun, 2009 12:58 PM
THE Daylesford Saints have managed a well-earned two-all draw against Ballarat North United in the BDSA match on Sunday.

The result was very impressive, but should have been a win, with the boys playing some amazing soccer.

The Saints started powerfully with the wind and two chances fell to Sam Berrins, who came very close on a few occasions.

Both chances were from brilliant runs in midfield from Ivan Carter and Dylan Nulty, who were playing with flair.

The Saints were the first to score, with a brilliant effort from Nulty.

Carter broke through midfield and delivered a perfectly weighted pass to the feet of Nulty, who smashed home from 25 yards into the bottom corner

Tonkea Costa and Hudson Beare tore strips off the opposition, with many skillful runs down the wing and into North United goal area.

The second half saw Dwight Beare and Nulty starting to dominate.

Steve Jenner was also having a top game and kept all of his opponents at bay.

But North United scored through a free-kick, that was spilled by keeper Nick Jansen, into the path of North's striker, who slotted home from one metre.

Jansen has been in top form this season, but was out of sorts on the day.

Carter eventually wove through United's defence and crossed perfectly to Nulty's head, who made no mistake with a powerful header.

The score was 2-1 to the Saints and a win looked a certainty.

But once again, North scored from a corner, which has been common this season against the Saints.

Carter cleared off the line, which smashed into another player and into the goal, a cruel end.

The boys were unable to find another goal, with Danny coming close in the final minutes.

Score: 2-2

Goals: Dylan Nulty 2

Best: Dwight Beare, Dylan Nulty, Ivan Carter, Steve Jenner, Sam Berrins
