Daylesford Saints hold on for well-earned draw against Ballarat North United

19 May, 2009 12:49 PM
THE Daylesford Saints managed a well-earned 1-1 draw against Ballarat North United, again playing with only eight players against the opposition's 11.

The result was with the boys playing some amazing soccer in the circumstances.

The Saints missed Toneka Costa, Neil Sweeper and Dylan Nulty, who have all played key roles so far in the Saints season.

The team was boosted, however, with the return of the influential Tobias Schmidt, who has come back from a groin injury.

The eight members played with determination and the value of many men, with much running and tackling to defend the Saints goals.

The Saints were the first to score, early into the second half, through a penalty that was calmly converted by Tobias Schmidt.

The Saints were winning more of the ball than North United, and could have scored a few goals.

Jack Nulty was tearing strips off his opposition, with many skillful runs down the wing and into North United goal area, narrowly missing the goals on numerous occasions.

Hudson Beare had two great chances, both times forcing the best out of the North United's keeper.

The Saints deserved a win, but could not hold North's loaded attacks, and allowed North to equalise in the second half, although the scorer appeared off-side.

The Saints continued to push through the in-form Steve Jenner, Tobias Schmidt and Daniel Trotter, with Hudson Beare shooting over from a tricky angled shot.

Score: Daylesford Saints 1 drew with Ballarat North United1. Best: Jack Nulty, Ivan Carter, Steve Jenner, Hudson Beare, Tobias Schmidt.
