Daylesford Bulldogs back to winning form

19 May, 2009 12:50 PM
THE Daylesford Bulldogs are back on the winners list, beating Springbank away from home by an impressive 73 points.

With a point to prove, Daylesford made sure they were never challenged, and with a new look line-up they led at every change to bring up their fourth win of the season.

Five changes were made to the side that lost last week, including an impressive debut by Pat Murray

Daylesford flew out of the blocks booting seven goals in the opening term, including a couple to full-forward Andrew Button, who has been consistent with his goal kicking all year.

With a large lead already opening up in the second quarter, Daylesford kept their foot down.

Chris Elderfield was in everything on the wing, flying for marks but also providing great pressure once the ball hit the ground.

Cade O'Brien was also brilliant through the centre, not only doing his usual bullocking work but also getting forward to kick three goals in a best on ground display.

Darren Chambers was also dominant throughout the game.

The new recruit also kicked three goals and his hard nosed approach to getting the footy has been a welcome addition to the team's make-up.

Another player to kick three goals was Xavier Keighran, who put the Bulldogs up by 10 goals during the third term when he slotted one home late in the third term.

The windy conditions at Springbank did cause havoc at times with a stiff breeze blowing across the ground, but Daylesford's field and goal kicking stood up in the conditions and provided them with a much needed percentage boost.

The key was Daylesford's engine room, where Luke and Joel Adams worked hard at the stoppages to win the ball and then feed it out to the running players to get the clearance.

All in all it was a very promising display by a youthful Bulldogs team, who host Gordon next week.
