NEWLYN went down in a tight struggle on the weekend after Bungaree ground out a 16-point victory in wet and windy conditions at the Cattery.
In a low-scoring affair, it was the Demons' ability to shut down their opponents when the Cats were aided by a three or four-goal wind in the first and third quarters that was the difference, Bungaree coach Jayden Reid said.
"Our defensive pressure when they had the scoring ends was really good - defensive pressure across the whole ground was the difference," he said.
"Especially in the third quarter, when we kept them goal-less, which set us up for the win. We just bottled them up and didn't let them play the kind of footy they wanted to play."
But it was also the way Bungaree used the wind in the second quarter, kicking five goals, in Adam Briggs, Matthew Cosgrave and Chris Eastwell (one) were best players for Newlyn.
