New coach for 'Dogs

17 Oct, 2006 11:40 AM
DAYLESFORD Football Club's new coach hopes to make the most of the town's young talent.

Phil Davis from Porcupine Ridge was appointed non-playing coach last week after former playing coach and captain Luke Adams stepped down from the role due to family commitments.

Originally from Melbourne, Davis said he was thrilled to be able to coach a team that was dedicated and enthusiastic.

"I think I will be part of a group that will continue its consistency," he said.

Davis said there was plenty of young talent around the town that he would be interested in developing.

Club president Wayne Evans said Davis came to the position with "impeccable coaching credentials".

"I applaud the decision," he said.

Davis coached the VAFA team, Ajax, for four years with one premiership and one other grand final appearance.

He also coached Ballarat in 1987 and 1988, winning the premiership in 1988.

From 1991 to 1993 he coached the Queensland Teal Cup side which included Jason Akermanis, Clark Keating and Michael Voss.

Davis spent 1980 as fitness adviser at the Essendon Football Club. His playing career of nine years was spent at St Kevin's Old Boys and CBC Old Boys.

With pre-season training set to start at the end of November, Davis said he intended to strengthen the team's physical presence.

Adams coached Daylesford for three years.

Supporters and players can meet the coach at Victoria Park on Sunday, November 5, at 2pm.
