IN ONE of the lowest-scoring matches in recent years, Daylesford fought its way to a three-point win over top-
five side Buninyong at Victoria Park on the weekend.
In atrocious conditions, the Bulldogs only managed four goals, but it was enough to get them the victory and keep
their unbeaten streak alive.
In a forgettable first term, Buninyong managed the only goal as heavy rain continued.
Daylesford only managed one behind for the first quarter and found itself trailing by 10 points at the first break.
The second quarter began much better for the Bulldogs, with livewire Kenny Cummings bringing up Daylesford's
first goal early in the term.
The continued efforts of midfield duo Luke and Joel Adams helped drive the ball forward, but it was to no avail
in the slippery conditions as Buninyong's backline was superb in repelling the Daylesford attacks.
Buninyong added another goal late in the half to maintain a 10-point lead at the main change.
A solid third quarter is what Daylesford would have been after, and that is what they delivered. After a
undisciplined act from Buninyong, Clayton Scoble converted a goal and soon after Rob Rodgers added a major of his
own through another 50-meter penalty to edge the Bulldogs in front.
Daylesford kept Buninyong goalless for the third term, and took a narrow two-point lead going into the final
quarter.
The lights were on and as the rain became heavier, so did the legs of all the players.
It was a tight struggle for the early part of the quarter but Buninyong managed to snare a goal.
It looked as though Buninyong was going to cause an upset until a fantastic grab by Xavier Keighran late in the
final quarter, which gave Daylesford a chance of victory.
Showing no signs of nervousness, Kieghran slotted the goal through to give Daylesford a three-point lead and
ultimately its fifth win of the season.
Daylesford plays Waubra next week in a 2007 grand final replay.
