PRIMARY school students had a rare chance to meet their idols recently, when the North Melbourne Kangaroos held a series of clinics at schools across the region.
At Creswick Primary School, North Melbourne players, including star midfielder Daniel Wells, spoke to the kids about their lives as AFL players before taking the students through their paces on the footy field with a series of activities.
Grade 5/6 teacher Ingrid Klein said it had been inspiring for the kids to talk with the players.
"It was really good to see how happy and entertained the kids were," she said.
"A lot of them can't get to Melbourne so this is the one chance the kids have got to see the players."
North Melbourne has an ongoing partnership with Ballarat, thanks to an agreement struck between the two parties last year.
An estimated 2500-plus turned out to see a Kangaroos intra-club practice match at Eureka Stadium Ballarat, prior to the school clinics.
North Melbourne Brand Marketing Manager John Murphy the relationship with Ballarat was only getting stronger.
He said an important part of the players commitment was the work they did in the community, such as with local schools.
"The reaction the players get when they go out and meet the kids is fantastic," he said.
"It is sometimes better than the reaction they get in Melbourne because it is so rare for these kids to get access to them."
