Hepburn still holds a lucky lifeline in finals race

31 Aug, 2010 12:55 PM
A PRELIMINARY final looms this week for Hepburn as it buckled to Daylesford in the last quarter of Saturday's qualifying final.

With scores level at three-quarter time, the Bulldogs out-kicked Hepburn with five last quarter goals to take the match.

Hepburn didn't show the endeavour required to win a final and in doing so gave up the easy passage through to the grand final.

The Burras couldn't get any rhythm into their game, and every time it looked to kick itself clear, undisciplined acts allowed Daylesford into the match.

As always, the retaliator always gets caught and Hepburn will have to learn from that.

There were some admirable solo efforts, but Hepburn was unable to put together a performance across the field worthy of taking the win.

Daniel Smith made a noteworthy effort in the back, as did Dan O'Halloran, in his 100th senior game, and Andy McKay, with five goals to his name.

Daylesford were a clear winner on the day and looked to want the win more than Hepburn.

Now Hepburn looks forward to using its double-chance, with the hope of challenging Daylesford in another grand final.
