Hawthorn great coaches Clunes

25 Jul, 2006 03:12 PM
FOOTBALL extraordinaire Peter Schwab visited Clunes last Friday leaving, a strong impression on students at the Wesley College campus and the Clunes Football Club.

Mr Schwab, who coaches football at Wesley College in Melbourne, played for the Hawthorn Football Club and won three premierships. He also coached the Hawthorn Football Club from 2000 to 2004 and was in charge of the AFL umpires.

Mr Schwab said he was keen to take the Clunes football team through a training session.

"I will see what they can do first then give them some tips," he said.

He took the junior and senior teams through a training session.

This was Mr Schwab's first visit to Clunes and the Wesley campus. He said it was a "great little town".

Head of program at the Clunes campus Rob Grant said that it was another opportunity for Wesley College to strengthen its relationship with the Clunes community.

"Since the early years in Clunes, Wesley College has been keen to develop a partnership with the people of Clunes and I am pleased that we continue to grow together," he said.

"Peter is a very high-profile coach and Wesley College is pleased that Peter has kindly accepted the invitation to provide a clinic for the Clunes players."

Mr Grant said that when students were at the Wesley College Clunes campus, they enjoyed playing in the Clunes sporting teams.

"Here is an opportunity for Wesley to make a contribution to the local club," he said.

"After Peter's visit, we now look forward to some great results from the clinics he will be running."
