A FOUR-GOAL final term helped Clunes snap its four-match losing streak at the expense of Newlyn.
In a tight contest all day, the Magpies trailed at the final change by one point but finished the better to record an 18-point win, 9.11.65 to 7.5.47.
"Our boys showed they really wanted to win, some blokes put their head over the ball and were first in, certainly in that last quarter," winning coach Andrew Tatchell said.
Tatchell said Magpies onballer Ricky Andrews was clearly the best on the field, managing two goals, while praising Michael Milne for his shut-down job on Newlyn star Chris Eastwell.
"Chris had a big influence in the first half and Michael went to him halfway through second quarter and really stopped his flow. He was pretty important in sacrificing his game to play on him," Tatchell said.
The defeat is a disappointing one for the Cats, who had been in good form over the past month and would have fancied their chances of taking four points.
Recruit Nathan Skewes was their best, with Adam Briggs also standing out in the defeat.
