THEY may have a lot of work to do but Daylesford believes it's in a prime position for back-to-back flags.
The team seems to be on track with new coach Darren McColl leading the Bulldogs, having only been in the job for a few weeks after Phil Davis's shock resignation.
Yet McColl doesn't feel he's got an impossible job ahead of him.
The Bulldogs beat the reigning premier Waubra by eight points in last year's Central Highlands Football League grand final.
Despite having lost a few key players in Travis Brigg, Jake Pring and Trent Nesbitt, McColl said the club certainly had the ability and the core of last year's side.
"Certainly I think we can do it again," he said. "But we're not in front of ourselves, we've got a lot of work still to do and we're trying to position ourselves throughout the season."
The Bulldogs take on Clunes this weekend, and while many CHFL followers have tipped Clunes to win less than five games this season, McColl said the Bulldogs would not be taking it easy.
"They'll be as keen as us to get a win on the board first up, so we won't be complacent, thinking it will be easy,"
he said. "We're obviously working on a few things at training, leading up to the pre-season, and there are a few things that we're keeping in house at the moment, but we're pretty much on track for where we want to be."
