DAYLESFORD/Trentham under-15s has won its way through to the Grand Final with a thrilling seven-point win against Winters Flat in the CDJFL second semi-final played at The Camp Reserve on Sunday.
Daylesford/Trentham kicked into a stiff breeze in the first quarter. With its disciplined backmen not giving an inch to the opposition, the team was able to hold Winters Flat to just one goal for the quarter, while scoring a goal through James Cann to be only one point down at first
quarter time.
The second quarter saw Daylesford/Trentham lift its intensity to gain some assistance from the wind.
The backline once again worked together to keep the opposition goaless while Cann and Joel Cowan slotted majors to take an 11-point lead into half time.
In the third quarter injury and illness took its toll on Daylesford/Trentham with numerous players having to leave the ground for attention placing huge pressure on the team.
To its credit, Daylesford/Trentham fought on gamely kicking one goal, four points against the wind to Winter Flat's three goals and two points to hold a narrow one-point lead at three-quarter time.
The final quarter was a battle royale with the ball constantly moving from end to end until Caleb Lipplegoes marked in front of goal and slotted it through.
Winters Flat, not to be outdone, goaled to level the scores late in the game.
With a couple of minutes left on the clock, Cann roved a loose ball in front of goal to kick his fourth for the game and secure his side a seven-point victory and a spot in the 2009 Grand Final.
