Daylesford volleyball team wins Horsham Championship

A MEN'S team from the Daylesford Volleyball Association competed in the annual Horsham Volleyball Championships on November 21-22.

Their first match was against Sunraysia, which they won 31/13, 31/19 due to the spiking dominance of state under-19 player Alexey Korinfsky. He thumped the ball into the opposition's court. The second match saw Daylesford up against the the tournament favourites Horsham but

due to the power serving of Steve Krunic and his great setting, Daylesford won the match 31/19, 31/22.

The third match was again Daylesfords with the Grant Boyd showing his versatity with his spiking and superb ground coverage, resulting in a victory score of 31/14, 31/25. The final game on Saturday was a rematch against Sunraysia with Daylesford needing to fight a rear guard action

to win the first set 31/27.

The second set saw inspirational play from Colin Priest and a record breaking serving exibition of 18 points to Henry Gallagher-Taulbert to win the set 31/10.

Sunday morning Horsham displayed great team work and precision spiking to defeat a determined Daylesford 20/31, 31/27, 16/14, in what provided to be the match of the tournament.

The final match of the round robin saw Jarrod Collings play a great all-round game to overcome the highly skilled opposition team Von Steiger Bros to win 31/24, 31/23.
