WITH finals just around the corner, the Daylesford Bulldogs have produced one of their best wins of the season, soundly beating Springbank by 85 points.
It was a fantastic day for football at Wallace Reserve in Springbank, with the pristine conditions coming as a small shock given that the past month of games have been played in very wet and cold conditions.
Rob Rodgers was best on ground for the Bulldogs, winning a lot of ball up and down the wing and creating many scoring opportunities for his teammates throughout the match.
Perhaps the biggest positive Daylesford could take from the match though was the sheer spread of goal kickers that they had.
The Bulldogs finished with 14 players who kicked at least one goal, showing that they don't have to rely on just one or two players to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Daylesford stamped their authority on the match very early on, and never looked back.
A six-goal opening term was exactly the start they were after, with the goals each coming from different players.
The second quarter was even better, as midfielders Nick Sullivan and Luke Adams not only made their presence felt in the midfield, but also on the scoreboard, with both kicking a goal each to help Daylesford to a nine-goal second term, and a 64-point lead at the main break.
Springbank, to their credit, stemmed much of the goal flow after half-time, but the damage was already done.
Young forwards Matthew Bolton and Aidan Mill added five goals between them which bodes well for the future, while Darren Chambers and Jordan Alexander were very crafty off the half-back flank.
Daylesford eventually ran out 85-point winners, and will go into next week's final game of the home and away season against Waubra, full of confidence.
