THE Daylesford Bulldogs have done what no other team could do this season - they beat Hepburn - and they did it by 20 points in the all-important qualifying final.
It was a classic example of finals football, with both teams grabbing the lead numerous times throughout the match, and neither putting the other away.
Scott Winduss was best on ground, dominating his opponent at the centre bounces and giving his midfielders silver service with large amounts of hit-outs to advantage.
Clayton Scoble was also terrific and was one of few who were able to keep his feet and use the ball cleanly under immense pressure from the opposition.
Daylesford kicked the first goal of the match thanks to a clever goal off the ground by Shannon Mobbs but the highlight of the first quarter came from Nick Sullivan, who beat two Hepburn opponents, won the ball and delivered to Michael Cummings.
Both teams traded goals throughout the first three terms, wrestling for the lead before drawing level at the final break.
Daylesford kicked four goals in the opening 10 minutes of the quarter and never looked back.
Rob Rodgers would add to his highlight reel, taking a huge high flying mark over a pack in the forward pocket, with his classy finish resulting in one of those four goals.
It was largely a team effort, though, that got Daylesford over the line, from the hard work of Scott Winduss and Michael Cummings, to the fantastic defence of Nathan Gudgeon and Bernie Jurcan, everyone played their role.
The siren brought jubilation to the Daylesford crowd, which now looks forward to seeing their team play in another CHFL grand final on September 1 against the winner of the Buninyong v Hepburn clash.
