THE Daylesford Bulldogs have romped to their 13th win of the season, beating fourth-placed Dunnstown by 73 points at the weekend.
In incredibly muddy conditions, Daylesford players were still able to break the game open with much cleaner hands and skills than their opponents, who they kept to just one goal for the match.
Hayden Mobbs showed just why he is a wet weather football specialist, throwing himself into every contest with reckless abandon and often coming out, if not with the footy, with a free kick.
Full forward Andrew Button also had a day out in conditions that many thought wouldn't suit the power forward.
He finished with six goals in what was a dominant display up forward for the Bulldogs.
Scoring was tough going early in the match, with both sides trying to adjust to the conditions the quickest.
Button's two opening term goals helped the Bulldogs get out to a handy 21-point lead at the first change, quite a margin given the conditions.
The second quarter would prove to be the knockout blow for Dunnstown, as Daylesford, through their midfield brigade of the Adams brothers and Cade O'Brien, were able to win the majority of stoppages around the ground and then use the ball effectively up field to teammates.
Terrific defence by the Bulldogs was also a major factor in the win, with Simon Beattie leading the backline with his spoiling and general harassment of the Dunnstown forwards.
At half time, Daylesford had a comfortable 47-point advantage, and hadn't let Dunnstown score for the entire first half.
The second half reflected much of the first, and while Dunnstown wa able to get its first goal early in the third term, Daylesford still maintained control of the match and ran out the game 73-point victors.
Daylesford travels to Springbank next week in the second last game of the home and away season, and will be looking to keep themselves locked into that all important second position on the ladder.
ReservesTHE Daylesford reserves have continued their winning ways, defeating Dunnstown's reserves by 13 points in a hard slog at the weekend.
In a game that was incredibly important to the reserves finals hopes, Daylesford fought their way in front in the second quarter and were able to hang on to their slight advantage for the remainder of the match to record their eleventh win of the season.
Tom Reeves was instrumental in the ruck, turning the game on its head when given free reign in the middle, while Angus Armstrong played his best game for the reserves, attacking the ball and his opponents with supreme hardness which in turn rubbed off on his teammates.
The reserves face Springbank this week and if they can come away with a win, it would mean a likely finals berth for the Bulldogs.
