Daylesford beats Springbank in a Central Highlands Football League match

24 Jun, 2008 12:47 PM
THE Daylesford Bulldogs got back on the winners list on the weekend, with an emphatic 162 point win over the winless Springbank.

In less than perfect conditions at Victoria Park, Daylesford kept the visitors to only three points, earning itself much needed percentage.

The game unveiled two new faces, Zac Tisdale and Stuart Wilson, while Vincent Townsend played his second game. All three showed some great signs for the future.

Daylesford shot out of the blocks early after winning many of the first quarter centre clearances. Scott Winduss dominated his opponent in the ruck, leading to ball-winner Luke Adams getting many first possessions out of the

middle.

Daylesford booted six goals in the first term, but inaccurate kicking stopped it from getting out to an even bigger lead.

The second quarter saw Daylesford's big key forwards take over. Nick Cronin was superb with his strong marks and goals, kicking four in the first half, but also his ground work was exceptional in the conditions. Jack Savige

was also terrific, marking anything that came his way and kicking truly.

An injury to Clayton Scoble and Nick Cronin shortened the Daylesford bench considerably, all before half time.

Daylesford coach Darren McColl called for a four-quarter effort at half time and that's what he received.

Despite losing two players, Daylesford pushed on and with Michael Cummings moving forward in the second half, the game blew out. Cummings booted five goals and Jack Savige added another five.

Matthew O'Brien was fantastic in his return to the seniors, first getting many possessions off half-back and then again in the middle later in the match.

Rob Rodgers gave plenty of drive from half back to set up many of Daylesford's goals, while the ever-consistent Xavier Keighran continued his stellar season.

Daylesford plays bottom-placed Gordon next week, in another game where the Bulldogs will be looking to win big.
