Burras' last laugh

12 Sep, 2006 10:35 AM
HEPBURN will make its third consecutive Central Highlands Football League seniors grand final appearance after defeating Daylesford by 52 points.

The reigning premiers will face Waubra at Ballarat's Austar Arena on Saturday, while the Bulldogs consider its lost chances from its first CFHL season.

The Kookaburras won with a convincing 17.15 (117) to the Dogs' 9.11 (65).

Early in the year Burra star Mathew Brown was soundly beaten by gun ruckman Scot Winduss.

This time Brown rose to the challenge and produced a vintage display at Learmonth to keep Hepburn's dream of a third consecutive flag well and truly alive.

Coach Shane Robertson was pleased with the way the players committed to the team plan and applied pressure to bring the Bulldogs' game unstuck.

There were no easy possessions for the Bulldogs onballers as they tried to drop off the back of contests.

As a result their forwards were forced to try and win kicks rather than have the ball delivered on a platter.

Sam Newton continued his dominance of Thompson, Ritchie Aitkin had the better of league best and fairest Luke Adams and Craig Leehane nullified the dangerous Nesbit.

Hepburn's onball brigade was led by Daniel James and Mathew Peake.

Peake's pace and audacious ball handling thrilled the huge crowd while Andy McKay turned on a clinic up forward.

Another to fire was finals specialist Troy Ferrier. Ferrier kicked three goals and gathered many possessions finishing off the good work started by Daniel Chapman, Alan Ware and Ross Mann.

Hepburn again has three football sides in grand finals.

The Northern Oval will be a sea of red and blue as the under 15s attempt to become premiers, the reserves have another crack at Ballan and the seniors go for history against an imposing Waubra outfit.
