Burras didn't even give a yelp

21 Jul, 2009 12:49 PM
ONE word - embarrassing.

As one Hepburn stalwart commented at half-time, ``I haven't seen a Hepburn side play this bad for 30 years''.

Whichever way you look at it, it was embarrassing. Hepburn supporters expected more, but the side didn't give a yelp.

Daylesford dominated the midfield right from the start as Hepburn gave away a stupid free kick before the opening bounce.

From then on Burras players couldn't get their hands on the ball to give their forward line any chance of scoring.

Young Sam Conroy would have learnt a lot playing against this region's best ever ruckman Scott Winduss and will be better for the experience.

Trevor Johnson worked tirelessly on a wing during the first half until succumbing to injury in the third quarter.

Lee Cox was giving his all, but there just wasn't enough supply coming his way to make an impact.

Cox was eventually moved to the backline where he showed his class.

Hepburn's game is built on pace but if you're not winning the ball then you will always look slow and that's exactly what happened as the Bulldogs led Hepburn a merry dance with quick ball movement.

To make matters worse, Nev Purtell looks like spending the next few weeks out with a serious facial injury after laying a tackle and receiving an elbow from Luke Adams.

Whichever way you try to look at it from a Hepburn perspective, there were no positives to come out of this match.

No player won his position against his opponent on the day. Maybe a couple broke even, at best.

Having said that, Hepburn Football Netball Club is a proud club and used to success and will do everything in its power to never have a repeat performance of this match.

Goals: P. Dillon 2, L. Cox 1, D. O'Halloran 1, A. Wedding 1. Best: L. Cox, G. Byers, A. Cimera.
