Bulldogs bounce back into top six with 51-point win over Ballan

18 May, 2010 12:38 PM
A 51-POINT win over Ballan has helped the Daylesford Bulldogs regain their spot in the top six, bouncing back from their tough loss last week against Waubra. A dominant second-half display from the Bulldogs would prove to be too much for Ballan to handle, after a hard-fought first

half with not much separating the two sides. The game featured the comeback of grand final hero Andrew Button, who showed that he certainly hasn't lost his touch, booting five goals in a heartening performance for Bulldogs supporters.

Young midfielder Toby Hughes also impressed, using his height and reach to take many marks around the ground, and, with his great running capacity, was able to run his opponents off their legs. The first quarter was an exciting and high-scoring affair, with both sides kicking four

goals for the term, and, if not for inaccuracy, that goal tally could have been a lot higher.

Ballan had a slight lead for most of the quarter, but late goals to Button and Luke Adams gave Daylesford a two-point lead at the first break.

Daylesford turned up the heat in the second term, mainly due to the increased pressure through the middle as Luke and Joel Adams began to rack up the possessions.

The Bulldogs had all the play for the quarter, but poor accuracy prevented them from creating a big lead. Two goals and five behinds for the quarter was their result with Darren Chambers kicking both goals, however Daylesford could only manage a 12-point lead at the half despite

dominating the quarter.

The third quarter resembled the first in many ways, with both teams being active on the scoreboard and almost trading goals throughout the quarter.

Button and Chambers continued to prove a handful in the forward area for their opponents, both adding to their goal tally to keep Daylesford just in front.

An extra goal for the quarter over their opponents gave Daylesford a three-goal lead heading into the final quarter, in what looked to be an exciting finish.

The Bulldogs were able to find another gear though, and completely dominated the final quarter by having ten scoring shots to Ballan's two.
