THE Daylesford Bulldogs had one of their best wins of the season, defeating Dunnstown by 36 points on the
weekend.
In cold and sticky conditions, the Bulldogs were able to weather a strong start by Dunnstown to run over the top of them in the second half.
The opening quarter saw both teams struggle to break the game open, such was the pressure around the ground.
Full-forward Andrew Button kicked the first goal for the Bulldogs and Scott Winduss dominated the ruck and his
opponent with his around-the-ground efforts, but it was Dunnstown who had the lead at quarter time.
While Daylesford's hunger for the football couldn't be questioned, their foot skills and decision making could have been.
With minimal forward-50 entries, Daylesford was only able to manage one goal in the second quarter, while
Dunnstown extended its lead.
James Evans was a shining light spoiling his opponent and then running off him to set up play, but Daylesford
found itself down by 13 points at the main break.
A much more confident and self-believing Daylesford team stepped out for the second half, and it showed on the scoreboard.
Halfway through the quarter Clayton Scoble marked an errant kick and drilled a sensational goal to lift the side,
while Joel Adams teamed up with Winduss to deliver the ball forward at every occasion.
An inspirational third term by Michael Davis gave the Bulldogs the lift they needed, kicking the last two goals
of the quarter to give Daylesford a 23-point buffer heading into the final term.
Daylesford continued to extend the lead in the last quarter, although some inaccurate shots at goal meant that the margin did not blow out.
Tom Reeves was fantastic all day at fullback, not giving his opponent an inch all day, while Paul Cook had plenty
of the ball across the wing and half-back.
Daylesford travels to Clunes next week as the final stretch of the season begins.
