THE Daylesford Bulldogs have shown they mean business during the second half of the season, defeating Creswick by an astounding 149 points in a game filled with controversy.
Daylesford outclassed its opponents in the slippery and wet conditions, focusing on winning the contested ball and playing unselfish, team football which was imperative in the mud.
There was a lot to like about Daylesford, especially up forward, with boom mid-season recruit Michael Cummings booting nine goals in three quarters in a very promising best-on-ground performance.
Bernie Jurcan also put in one of his best performances for the year, revelling in the conditions and getting the Bulldogs off to a dream start when he booted the first goal of the match.
From that point onwards it was domination, with Daylesford booting seven goals to one in the first quarter to take a stranglehold over its opponents.
The midfield quartet of Scott Winduss, Cade O'Brien and Luke and Joel Adams were working well together at the stoppages and were giving their forward line plenty of chances to put a big score on the board.
The second quarter would be embroiled in controversy, however, as Rob Rodgers was knocked unconscious after an incident with Creswick's Bradley Lockyer early in the term.
Rodgers left the ground on a stretcher and did not return, leaving the Bulldogs with 20 men after they lost Shannon Mobbs in the first term with a suspected broken hand.
Daylesford would not let this setback put it off its game though, and continued to dominate Creswick in all facets of the game, piling on seven goals which included five from Cummings, and keeping Creswick scoreless for the quarter.
With an 87-point lead at half-time, the damage was done.
But even with the match all but over, the crowd was treated to more highlights from Cummings, who soared over his opponent at centre half-forward to take a ripping mark and then calmly slotted yet another Daylesford goal.
Nick Sullivan also joined the party with a couple of second-half goals as Daylesford extended its lead to almost 25 goals at the final siren.
Daylesford now heads to Learmonth in the hope it can continue its recent run of outstanding form.
