`Turf curse' bars Daylesford win

13 Feb, 2008 10:43 AM
DAYLESFORD has returned winless from Bendigo Country Week.

The curse of the turf wicket got the better of the representative side, with batsmen failing to develop partnerships.

Captain Tom Geddes lost the toss on the first two days and Daylesford was sent in on soft wickets at Huntly and Elmore.

Daylesford's batsmen struggled to adapt from consistent carpet wickets to seaming turf tracks.

Grenville defeated Daylesford on Monday and Ferntree Gully won outright on Tuesday.

Wednesday's match was at Colbinabbin where Daylesford batted first but still only managed 77 runs. Kyabram Colts replied with 265.

Thursday's match against bottom team Redcliffe was washed out.
