Newlyn bats flex their muscles

NEWLYN was at home to Blackwood and batted after winning the toss.

It made 3/202 after an opening partnership of 126 between Chris Stephens 53 and Ian Hill 69. Mark Clohesy chipped in with 38, while Al Salmon took 1/45 and Luke Whitehouse, with 1/49, tried hard for Blackwood.

Blackwood was 8/147 at the end of its 35 overs.

Marty Dejong, 53 not out and Dez Hepburn, 32 did well with the bat while the wickets were shared by Mark Clohesy 3/38, Was Carter 3/25 and Pete Stephens 2/40.

Next week's games are two-day games and Newlyn is home to Colts, Hepburn home to Blackwood and Korweinguboora home to Trentham.

The ladder after round seven is: Newlyn 30, Colts 24, Korweinguboora 18, Hepburn 18, Blackwood 12 and Trentham 6.

No scores were provided for the Colts versus Korweinguboora match or for the Hepburn versus Trentham game.
