Lawrence the A grade champions in Mt Prospect senior tennis

30 Mar, 2010 11:51 AM
LAWRENCE and Kingston White played off in the Mt Prospect Tennis Association A Grade pennant grand final on the weekend.

In the end it was Lawrence taking the title, winning eight sets to one.

Lawrence showed the way early, taking all three of the men's sets.

This was mainly due to the consistent form of John Kinnersly, who only conceded six games in both his sets.

Chris Todd fought hard for Kingston White but the Lawrence men did not miss a trick.

The Lawrence women were also playing well to take two out of three of the ladies' sets.

Robin Kinnersly did well to take her two sets.

Kingston White's Rachael White made it difficult for the Lawrence ladies, snatching one set and going down in her second in a tie-break.

Going into the mixed sets it was Lawrence in control.

Lawrence continued its good form, taking all three of the mixed sets to secure the win and give their side their first title in a number of years.

In A1, St Augustines defeated Kingston by 16 games.

The St Augustines' men got off to a great start, taking two of three of the men's sets.

Jacob Mills showed good form taking both of his sets.

The Kingston ladies fought their way back into the match to take two out of three of the ladies' sets.

This was mainly due to the great form of Leanne Hughes.

Going into the mixed, it was St Augustines in control by 11 games.

But St Augustines was too good, taking two of three of the mixed sets - enough to win the cup.

A2 saw Kingston Red defeat Mt Prospect by 17 games.

John Thomas and Chris McCalum made the difference, playing solid tennis to give their side the championship.

In A3, St Augustines had to work hard to defeat the young Kingston Gold team by just two games.

Leon Mullins was very strong for St Augustines winning his three sets for the day giving his team the title.
