In the first semi-final of the 2011/12 Cricket Willow Shield on Sunday, the Youth Club CC from the Grampians cricket association took on Avoca.
Youth Club won the toss and elected to bat. After a shaky start to their innings thanks to some tight bowling from Avoca and in particular Matt Drummond (3-31) and Gavan Hicks (2-5) Youth Club was able to post 128 thanks to a fantastic innings from Jamie Solymon who top scored with 63.
In reply, Avoca was bowled out for 100 with Kimbral chipping in with 3-12 and Nic Baird finishing the innings off with 2-1.
In the second semi-final, Carranballac from the Grenville cricket association faced Lucas CC from the Ballarat and District association. Carranballac won the toss and sent Lucas into bat. Some late hitting saw Lucas CC get to an imposing 173. For Carranballac CC Luke Jackson took 3-40 and Wilbur Fay chipped in with 3-26 at the end of the innings.
Carranballac was bowled out for 102. Top scorers for Carranballac CC were Thomas Thewlis with 30 and Luke Brain 18. For Lucas CC, Dale Jeffrey was most damaging with the ball claiming 4-27.
Youth Club CC will now face Lucas CC in the final on January 26 at Cricket Willow at noon.
On January 22 the Division 1 Cricket Willow Cup semi-finals will be held at Cricket Willow.
