Creswick Imperials too hot for Buninyong

30 Mar, 2010 11:59 AM
CRESWICK fielded a strong side for the four-day Ballarat Cricket Association's Division Two grand final but went in as underdogs given their defeat by Buninyong in the two-day game earlier in the season.

Batting first, the Wickers needed a big total and at three for 107 seemingly were on their way.

However, with ace opener Lachlan Pryor dismissed for 48, the team lost six wickets for 57 before some lusty hitting from Brad Murray (29) enabled a competitive 197 total.

In turn, Buninyong was shellshocked by Joel Antonio's mesmerising spell and when he finished with 7 for 16, they were all out for just 65.

The second innings saw Creswick build the lead to beyond 300 with Pryor again starring with 48 and Steven Miles holding the lower order together to top score with 61.

No one else got to 20 and the 186 total still gave Buninyong a sniff with 120 overs available.

While Antonio was kept at bay by the Bunnies, Jason Jones ripped through their batting to take 6 for 37.

Ash Coxall got three wickets to take his match bag to five and the game was over with Buninyong bowled out for 99 - still 219 in arrears.
