IF WRITING is merely a hobby for Musk resident Ian Bull, then cricket is a passion.
When Mr Bull, who once played 300 games for the former Musk Cricket Club, realised his former "sworn enemy on the field", the Korweinguboora Cricket Club, was celebrating its 125th birthday, he decided to write a book to record its history.
"I did it for the love of cricket," he said.
"It was easy to do, whether it was a book about Korweinguboora or my own little club."
The Korweinguboora Cricket Club will launch the book during its 125th anniversary celebration this Saturday.
The club commissioned the book, titled History of the Korweinguboora Cricket Club and the Leonards Hill Cricket Club, celebrating 125 years from 1883/84 to 2008/09.
Mr Bull, who did much of his research of the club while writing a previous book Those flannel fools: history of the Daylesford Central Cricket Association, said one of the club's first matches on the heath in February 1884 was against the Telegraph CC.
"Because I ended up with so much information and I noticed Korweinguboora was 125 years old, I approached them," he said.
The book, which is full of interesting facts and statistics, relays how the club created a minor publicity scoop, when in playing in the 1963/4 season their entire team consisted of left-handed batsmen.
Captained by Leon Hedwards, the club won the premiership that season.
In all, the club has won the coveted Sam Morris Cup 16 times. The captains were R. Sheppard, K. Dailies, J. Suckling, L. Hedwards, R. Dancers, A. Dancers, R. Richardson and S. Cowan, who has lead the team a record six times.
The club's most prominent player to date is Steve Cowan who holds the Daylesford Association's record for the most runs scored and the most centuries scored. Other famous family names of note for the club include: Adams, Dailies, Dancers, Haiti, Richardson, Schiller, Suckling
and Watt, with many of these appearing as winners of the association's various individual players awards.
The club has over the seasons provided office bearers for the association's executive. Many of its players have played for, or captained, the association's representative teams.
Club president Josh Watt said he has invited past and present players and supporters to meet at Korweinguboora Recreation Reserve this Saturday, from 4pm, for the birthday celebrations and book launch.
Copies of the book will be available at the celebrations, or can be obtained by phoning Josh Watt on 5348 3277.
