Mooltan Guesthouse owners, Eddie and Jenny Beacham agreed to sponsor Chris Adkins, 20, to take part in a three-week basketball development tour along the west coast of America from November 23.

Adkins said the basketball tour would provide players with valuable experience against elite-level players from various American college teams.

"I'm really grateful for the support of sponsors as a large tour brings with it high costs," he said.

Mr Beacham said young people should be encouraged when they showed initiative - like Adkins, who approached them for funding.

"He's a local Daylesford boy going on to greater things and the trip is a great chance for him," he said.

Born in Daylesford, Adkins moved to Bendigo this year and has since been playing for the Bendigo Braves in the South East Australian Basketball league.

With a love of the game and rigorous training sessions prior to the tour, Adkins said he was keen to have a future in basketball.

"Within the next five years the coach expects me to play a big part in the team," he said.
