DAYLESFORD hosted the Loddon Highlands Challenge on the weekend with basketball teams competing from Castlemaine, Macedon, Kyneton, Clunes and Daylesford.
The tournament was organised by Sam Camilleri, the zone representative for Central Highlands.
The purpose of the competition was to promote playing basketball in country areas.
Boys and girls teams participated in under-12s, under-14s, under-16s and under-20s age groups over the two-day competition.
While the calibre of many of the visiting teams was high the Daylesford Springers teams gave it their all in their first tournament experience.
The teams fought out each game until the end, with some of the under-12 boys even playing in the under-14 team so the Springers could field a team.
This was a great opportunity for the Springers boys and girls to play against teams outside of their regular Tuesday night competition and was both a fun and valuable learning experience.
It is hoped that the challenge will become an annual event.
