Six teams compete for honours in Daylesford women's basketball competition

09 Jun, 2009 05:44 PM
SIX teams now make up the Daylesford Senior Women's Social Competition on Tuesday nights.

The Burra Girls, reformed after many dominant seasons in the Kyneton competition, are clearly the benchmark team this season.

They showed little mercy against the enthusiastic Go Girls, winning 67 - 18.

Burra Girls: C. Black 16, T Henderson 25, J Barrard 14. Go Girls: D. Petkovic 4, M. Gruer 4.

Youthful exuberance as the Wildcats outplayed the mature, yet gritty, Owls 22 - 6.

The scoreboard belied a keenly fought contest and it would seem the Owls simply realised too late that to win one must put the big brown ball through the shiny orange hoop.

Wildcats: N. Rodgers 8, N. Powell 8. Owls: S. Maude 6.

Another young side fresh back from success representing Daylesford Springers in the Ballarat competition, and who are now called the T-Birds, showed surgical precision against the Health Services team the Quacks, winning 45 - 27.

T-Birds: Emma Harrison 10, B. Ford 8, M. Hartz 8. Quacks: K. Reilly 13.

Four teams of men played Wednesday night at the ARC in fun and fast "scratch matches" ahead of a formal winter season starting in the next couple of weeks.

More men or whole men's teams are invited to join to create a competition with at least six teams in the draw.

Training at the ARC for any interested senior players, women and men, is held on Fridays from 6pm to 7pm. $2 per session.

Details: Sam Camilleri on 5345 292 or Adrian Maude on 5348 4821.
