A GROUP of women basketballers are hoping to set up a competition in Daylesford.
Carol Black, who plays with the Burra Girls, said the team was tired of driving to Kyneton to take part in competition.
Ms Black said team members were hoping to start a women's competition at the Daylesford ARC with at least five teams.
"We have been playing at Kyneton for the past seven years, and won five of those, but we want to move to the ARC if we can," she said.
Ms Black said the idea had the support of the YMCA and the ARC's manager, Tim Walshe, with an inaugural event planned for February 24 at 7.30pm.
"We want any teams to come along as well as individuals who would like to play basketball," she said.
"We have a great facility on our doorstep and we just want to see what sort of interest there is out there."
Ms Black said there had been a women's competition some years back.
"We just all love playing the game," she said.
"So women should bring their runners and we'll get together for a scratch match next Tuesday."
Ms Black said the Kyneton competition, which saw the women carpooling to keep petrol costs down, was currently held only during the summer season from October to March.
The women were hoping a Daylesford competition would see them also playing throughout the winter season, she said.
