DIFFERENT DIRECTION: The series caters to the adventure market and aims to provide a twist on the traditional city triathlon.
THE Salomon Tre-X Off-road Triathlon Series will be staged in Daylesford as part of a family weekend of adventure sports next month.
The main race, which is expected to attract entrants from across Victoria, will feature a 500 metre swim in Jubilee Lake, a 20-kilometre cycle through Wombat State Forest and a six kilometre run.
Event director Robyn Lazenby said it was the first time the event would be staged in Victoria.
Catering to the adventure market, it aims to provide a twist on the traditional city triathlon.
"We basically think that off-roads are a lot more fun," she said.
"Rather than run through streets with apartment buildings we get to run through bush.
"In an off-road environment, every turn, every track you go on is different."
Ms Lazenby said, as well as catering to competitive athletes, the event was a chance for people to experience the outdoors and take on personal challenges.
She said a shorter course would be staged for people who just wanted to have a go.
The triathlon will form part of In 2 Adventure's "Weekend Dirt Fest", a family event with activities for kids and adults alike.
Mountain biking, trail running, free kids events and activities for the whole family will be held in Daylesford during the weekend of February 20-21.
