AT age 12, Izzy Vanzetta-Eyles has already been identified as an exciting talent on the athletics track.
Vanzetta-Eyles, a Grade 6 student at Daylesford Primary School, will represent Western Victoria this month at Olympic Park in Melbourne when she competes in the state finals of the under-13 girls 100- and 200-metre sprints.
Daylesford Primary principal Peter Burke said Vanzetta-Eyles was close to running national qualifying times.
In the regional athletics event, recently held in Geelong, Vanzetta-Eyles smashed her personal best time in the 200 metres by two seconds, coming over the line in just 27.7 seconds.
"For a Grade 6 kid, anything under 30 is very good," Mr Burke said.
"To improve two seconds in two weeks, that's exceptional. "
It seems running is in Vanzetta-Eyles' blood.
It was her father who inspired Vanzetta-Eyles to start running.
"He was the fastest over 400 metres when he was my age," Vanzetta-Eyles said.
Now she is making her own mark on the track.
Vanzetta-Eyles has so impressed her school sports co-ordinator, he is planning to nominate her for a Sporting Blue award for exceptional athletics in Victoria.
Vanzetta-Eyles who has begun training with a Victorian Institute of Sports athletics coach based in Ballarat, has also been identified as a potential 400-metre runner.
"She has been identified as a real talent," Mr Burke said.
