Trentham Spudfest 08 sprouts ideas

27 May, 2008 12:23 PM
TOURS of potato diggers huts and an opening dinner on Friday night were highlights of Trentham's inaugural

Spudfest.

Organisers said the festival at the weekend was a success and they hoped it would become an annual festival.

Trentham Residents and Traders Association president Bob White said visitors were intrigued by the huts, which

date back to the 1880s.

Mr White said 90 people attended the opening on Friday while more than 70 people attended the dinner on Saturday

night.

Sunday's market at the railway station and potato cooking contests also attracted strong interest, said Mr White.

He said another attraction was a display of current and historical potato machinery.

Mr White said the committee would strongly consider running the event next year.

The event was organised with support from Trentham Historical Society, Lions Club and churches.
