Thousands celebrate ChillOut's 'Bush Odyssey' festival

09 Mar, 2010 11:50 AM
AUSTRALIA'S biggest celebration of gay and lesbian pride in a rural setting saw drag queens, firefighters and line dancers unite for Sunday's spectacular ChillOut parade in Daylesford.

Organisers were thrilled by the strong attendance, with thousands of people joining in the festivities despite the wet weather.

People sheltered from the rain under rainbow umbrellas, which matched flags that adorned shopfronts throughout the town.

"It was exceptional. Everyone seemed to be having a great time," ChillOut president Adam Wright said.

Kicking off the parade with a lap of Vincent St were members of the Dykes on Bikes group. Gleaming motorcycles and shiny leather went hand-in-glove with the roar of machines as some of the riders opened the big bikes' throttles.

Drag queens, costumes and leather-clad lesbian motorcyclists provided a great morning's entertainment for those who braved the overcast conditions at Sunday's ChillOut parade.
