A VCE student will be first in the history of Daylesford Secondary College to take her final piano examinations with a solo performance in October.
Madeleine Ingham said her final exams would be a completion of her music education after playing the piano since she was 11 years old.
"I've been exposed to a fantastic musical environment at school and that inspired me to take my studies further,'' Ms Ingham said.
"I wanted to finish off my schooling doing something I love.''
Ms Ingham said she had also been studying with Newlyn piano tutor Bronislaw Sozanski for more than five years.
"He's very committed to his students and puts his heart into teaching,'' Ms Ingham said.
"Having his support has helped me to build up my courage to perform.''
Ms Ingham recently played at the Ararat Eisteddfod where she won first prize for three sections including VCE solo performance in pre-20th century and post-20th century and second prize for the Australian composers section.
At the Royal South Street Eisteddfod in Ballarat, Ms Ingham competed against nine students to achieve second place for her solo performance last August.
She will be appearing at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery for a 25-minute public performance on Saturday, October 11, at 2.30pm as a lead-up to her final examination.
Ms Ingham said she would consider playing professionally as a background musician in the future but was focused on a career in environmental and design areas.
"Music will always remain a huge part of my life,'' Ms Ingham said.
