DAYLESFORD massaged its way into the record books when more than 500 people gathered at Lavandula Lavender Farm yesterday for the world's largest ever simultaneous massage.
Two hundred and sixty three massage therapists each massaged a willing participant, smashing the former world record of 167, set last year in Washington DC, in the US.
Daylesford and Macedon Ranges Tourism executive officer Graham Middleton said it was a testament to Daylesford's title as the spa capital of Australia.
"It clearly puts us on the world stage," Mr Middleton said.
"There was an incredible buzz out here. Everyone was cheering and clapping."
The event, organised by Tourism Victoria, saw qualified massage therapists and volunteers from the community take part in the history making massage, which also promoted Daylesford as Australia's number one spa and well-being destination.
A representative from the Guinness World Records adjudicated the record attempt, which formed part of the $7.3 million Daylesford "Lead a double life" national campaign.
