Glimpsing the mystery of the past through a magic lantern

17 Aug, 2010 12:50 PM
MUSEUM Victoria's senior curator David Demant wowed audiences at Saturday's Words in Winter family day with a little bit of old fashioned magic.

His 19th-century-inspired magic lantern and music show attracted sell-out crows at Daylesford Town Hall on Saturday, with children and adults alike enraptured by a dazzling array of unique sounds and special effects.

"It was just brilliant," Words in Winter chairman Glen Heyne said. "The magic lantern slideshow was the first public thing they did where people could go into a hall and see moving pictures.

"That sort of thing has a fascination for everybody."
